Here is what I meant to do this weekend:

  • Go out to breakfast at one of Walla Walla’s two new breakfast places.
  • Visit the local Humane Society.
  • Maybe adopt a second dog.
  • Spend lots of time adjusting to being a two-dog household.
  • Go on a date with husband.
  • Copious amounts of laundry.
  • Go to library.
  • Sort and wash baby clothes.
  • Clear out baby room.
  • Exercise.
  • Redistribute office furniture currently inhabiting baby room.
  • Research, purchase, and install closet system in baby room.
  • Assemble crib.
  • Go to church.
  • Cook meals.
  • Plan meals.
  • Clean house.

Here is what I did this weekend:

  • Started a load of laundry.
  • Dumped a quart of beef stock into my brand-new freezer.
  • Fell down the snowy-looking but actually ice-coated front steps while going to turn on car.
  • Crawled back into house, cried, threw things in general direction of dozing husband.
  • Spoke to on-call midwife at OB provider’s office. Was told to proceed to the hospital for monitoring.
  • Made breakfast.
  • Slipped and fell flat on back in gutter while trying to get into car to go to hospital.
  • Spent five hours in hospital being monitored.
  • Got to know nice nurse named Marielle.
  • Went home with instructions to spend 24 hours horizontal.
  • Watched all three Back to the Future movies.
  • Ate pizza.
  • Imagined that every twinge or muscle ache between waist and knees was a sign of preterm labor or detaching placenta.
  • Imagined how awful meeting dead baby would be in the event of preterm labor or detaching placenta.
  • Rejoiced every time baby moved.
  • Worked on knitting projects.
  • Snuggled with dog.
  • Read.

Here is what Aaron did this weekend:

  • Drank wine.
  • Played Xbox.
  • Had to leave bed on Saturday morning when confronted with sobbing wife and flying objects.
  • Discovered there was no coffee in house.
  • Drove wife to hospital.
  • Spent five hours at hospital.
  • Critiqued electrical systems in maternity ward.
  • Waited a long time for lunch.
  • Installed wife on couch.
  • Went to store for provisions including tortilla chips and chocolate.
  • Fetched lots of water and milk for ailing wife.
  • Ordered and retrieved pizza and salads.
  • Watched all three Back to the Future movies.
  • Rubbed wife’s feet.
  • Walked, fed, and generally looked after dog.
  • Reassured worried wife.
  • Rearranged rooms full of furniture, including several full bookshelves and a desk.
  • Cooked breakfast.
  • Did laundry started by wife.

And here is what I still want to do this weekend:

  • Convince Aaron that we should probably order Thai food for dinner so I don’t overdo it.

I’m pretty sure I’ve told you before, but I’m going to tell you again. I freaking love your blog. I also love that you make kid stuff interesting and funny to me, which I normally think is incredibly uninteresting. I’m soooooo glad to hear you are okay from falling, not once, but TWICE! So scary!!
