Legume Root Nodules – Symbiotic, Not Bad

Googling “what are these furry things on the roots of my fava bean plants” was less than enlightening. Thank goodness my mother-in-law is a Master Gardener. Apparently the root nodules on my beans weren’t harmful, but helpful. (Also, beans generally self-pollinate. And, lettuce gets bitter and oozes white goo when it’s about to bolt.)

This still doesn’t explain the lack of beans. At least I can compost the plants.
